BUILD YOUR “ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLBOX”

Productivity increases when you keep your skills and tools sharp. Most would say that their hard skills have stayed sharp while working from home during the pandemic but what about what we call the power skills…communication, decision making, creative and critical thinking, and conflict resolution?

We have planned our National Administrative Professional Conference with ways for you to build and fill your administrative toolbox with sharp tools to keep you ahead of the game.

SPEAKERS

We have four dynamic speakers lined up that will give you a balanced set of razor-sharp tools:

Glynis Devine – “Say What? Assertive Communications Skills to Step into Your Power!” and “Leveraging Your Influence for Powerful Impact!”

Say What? Assertive Communications Skills to Step into Your Power!”

Do you find that what you say to some people is definitely NOT what they hear?! While others could finish your sentences for you – like they ‘get you’? Communication… It’s the root of all relationships and challenges!

In a world where admin professionals are continuously being asked to do more with less, it’s more important than ever to communicate effectively, respectfully, and assertively to ensure collaboration and high performance.

Using effective communication skills assertively will help you:

  • Reduce conflict
  • Engage advocacy
  • Increase effectiveness
  • Influence change
  • Reduce bottlenecks and stress!
  • Shift mindsets

Key learning objectives:

  • The five ‘dirty words’ that take away your power
  • Two effective acronyms in an alphabet soup mess
  • Assertive body language that aligns with your power
  • How to upwards delegate, assertively, effectively, and respectfully
  • How to say ‘no’, and when you should

This is a highly interactive sessions for admin professionals who have healthy motives and need communication skills that effect positive change!

“Leveraging Your Influence for Powerful Impact!”

“The greater the impact you want to make, the greater your influence needs to be.”

–  John C. Maxwell

What do Melinda Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Sheryl Sandberg all share in common?  They have the power to influence others, and YOU can, too!

Influence is a strategy; it begins with knowing who you are, the strengths you need to leverage, and when, and with whom you need to leverage them.

Applying these techniques will empower you to take a proactive, positive, and influential role in your team, and equip you with a blueprint for building teams that have less conflict, more ownership, and enjoy a shared cohesiveness.

Key learning objectives:

In this highly interactive and empowering session you’ll learn:

  •   How to assertively advertise your strengths
  •   Which opportunities can give you visibility
  •   What to say no to
  •   How to engage others to collaborate
  •   To recognize the motive for others to contribute

Confident admin professionals promote increased performance, productivity, and improve overall retention and morale in their organizations.

To effect powerful impact, you are going to have to draw on your ability to influence effectively and authentically.

Lisa Gareau – “Becoming a Not-so-secret Event Service Agent in your Workplace”

One of our four dynamic speakers lined up that will give you a balanced set of razor-sharp tools is Lisa Gareau. Lisa is a Connection Strategy Coach, and the Founder and President of Candy Event Consulting.

Lisa Gareau is a life-long event planner and has been a Connection Strategy Coach for over a decade. When founding Candy Event Consulting in 2008, she began her life’s work to help impact-driven event planners and their teams embrace their brilliance, activate their experience, and cultivate meaningful connections that would last. She believes any event can become an energized “connecting point” where clients, customers, or a community can gather and grow. Lisa helps make this happen by facilitating in-person and virtual strategy, coaching, and workshop sessions for event planners and their teams from her home base of Calgary, Alberta near the Canadian Rockies – a favourite family playground.

Shelagh Donnelly – “Why and How to Use LinkedIn as a Tool for Visibility and Networking” and “Business Writing for Success in Our Hybrid World.”

Authentic, informed and inspiring, professional speaker and trainer Shelagh (pronounced “Sheila”) Donnelly walked our walk for three decades. Until 2019, Shelagh used to plan her vacations around the international conferences at which she spoke. In the year before the pandemic, Shelagh presented at conferences and events in five different countries.

Our fellow Canuck is joining us in PEI on the heels of Spring ’22 presentations in Europe and the UK, and it’s little wonder. Assistants describe Shelagh as engaging, funny and knowledgeable. She’s recognised as an excellent educator who provides wise counsel and practical strategies, and assistants around the globe have been reading Shelagh’s Exceptional EA website since 2013.

Shelagh understands that careers evolve. She left a role reporting to a COO to become a trainer for the same corporation. Later, with young ones in school, she rebooted her assistant career in a smaller town and at the bottom of the org chart. She went on to become a direct report to four CEOs, and accountable to four board Chairs. She’s led teams, projects and events, had the benefit of her own assistants, and chaired a national board of directors.

Born in Toronto and raised in Vancouver, Shelagh’s passionate about family, nature, photography and travel, and about helping you thrive in a career you enjoy.

“Why and How to Use LinkedIn as a Tool for Visibility and Networking”

Do you have a LinkedIn (LI) profile, or tap into LI as a networking resource? Used effectively, this platform can be far more than a tool for those contemplating career changes.

Shelagh will walk you through a series of steps you can take to establish, flesh out or update your profile, which is really a representation of your professional reputation. We’ll look at engaging others to help highlight your skills and the positive impacts you have on employers and stakeholders.

Whether you have little or no profile on LinkedIn at this point in time, this session with Shelagh will help you determine whether you’d like to enhance your presence on this platform, and how to go about it so people you’d like to connect with will want to connect with you.

Key learning objectives:

  • Why and how you may want to establish or review and elevate your LinkedIn profile
  • Would you want to connect with you?  Profile tips to influence your professional reputation
  • Connecting, contributing and learning: the networking aspect of LinkedIn

“Business Writing for Success in Our Hybrid World”

Our business writing skills speak volumes, and impact reputations – our own, and those of the people and employers we support. Given the extent to which we communicate remotely, the quality of our written communications has become increasingly relevant.

Once we’re established in our career, it’s easy to assume the writing skills that got us there will continue to serve us well. While that may be the case, it’s a good idea to periodically pause and take stock. Given our hybrid world, it’s more important than ever to consider what our business writing says about our credibility, currency and professionalism.

Join Shelagh for tips on honing general communications, reports and emails, and writing for multiple audiences. You’ll gain insights on how to ensure your written communications are concise and underpinned by good grammar, proper punctuation and organisational knowledge.

Key learning objectives:

  • Writing with your readers in mind and avoiding the most common errors in business writing
  • How to structure your communications with clarity and logic so people actually read (rather than skim overt) what you have to say
  • How to ensure your grammar and language enhance, not diminish, your reputation
